Dan Lakin

The director of a tipi hire company is preparing to embark on a long distance open water swim in support of a Yorkshire children’s charity.

Dan Lakin, who runs Bradford-based Bar Events UK, will join thousands of swimmers taking part in the 2023 The Great North Swim which takes place at Lake Windermere from 9-11 June.

Dan, 39, aims to raise £500 for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity which provides respite holidays for children who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse.

Dan, who has been training at Nuffield Health Club in his home home of Guiseley near Leeds, hopes to beat his previous personal best time of just 49 minutes. Speaking ahead of the event, he commented,

‘I’m proud to be swimming for The Principle Trust and am very grateful to friends and family who are supporting me.’

Founder of the charity Mike Davies MBE added,

‘Thanks to people like Dan, we’ve helped thousands of disadvantaged, disabled and poorly children to escape their everyday troubles and create happy memories with their families. Every penny Dan raises will help us to support more children across the Yorkshire region.’
