Dronfield-based financial planners, Belmayne, are doing their bit to encourage a student with a head for numbers to follow in their footsteps.
The independent Derbyshire firm provided work experience for 15-year-old Edward Flack, from New Mills School in the High Peak, to help him learn more about a career in financial services.
Edward spent the day with Belmayne planner, Melanie Shaw and partner, Martin Birch, learning the importance of having solid financial plans, how they are calculated and the impact advisers have on clients’ lives.
Melanie said: “It was a pleasure to meet Edward and introduce him to life in a financial planning firm. He is an incredibly talented, enthusiastic individual who had clearly spent a great deal of time preparing for his work experience. He showed interest in and an aptitude for what we do and I hope his day at Belmayne has inspired him to pursue his ambitions.”
Belmayne introduced Edward to the office environment, demonstrated how tracker funds are used to aid the performance of pensions and encouraged him to review the firm’s website from a client’s perspective. The feedback he provided was actioned to implement improvements.
Edward added: “Having experienced a day with Melanie and Martin, I can say I am better off for doing so. Before my arrival, I was tasked with creating a set of questions about what a financial planner’s life is like and they have definitely been answered. I am so grateful for the insight Belmayne has given me and I can safely say I am now much more likely to consider a future career in financial planning.”
